Roulette
Roulette is one of the most popular gambling games that is offered by both online and brick and mortar casinos. There are millions of players worldwide who choose this game as their preferred casino game even though there is virtually no skill involved in the game and it is purely a game of chance.
The game gets its name from the French word meaning “small wheel”, which alludes to the fact that the game is played by spinning a ball on a wheel. The place where the ball stops determines whether the player wins or loses the round.
How to Play Roulette
Roulette is a very simple game to understand and since it does not involve much skill, it is suitable for amateurs and professional gamblers. The roulette wheel is divided into numbered slots, and depending on the style of game that is played (European or American), there are either thirty seven or thirty eight divisions on the wheel. Each of these slots, in addition to having a number allotted to them, also has a color (either red or black) associated with it.
To play the game, the player uses the betting table to place a bet. This betting table contains numbers and the player decides on the kind of bet to play and the specific numbers to choose. Once all the bets are placed, the croupier sets the wheel in motion and then spins the ball in the opposite direction on a slanted track on the wheel. When the wheel comes to a stop, the ball rolls into a specific slot on the wheel, revealing the winning number.
Types of Roulette Bets
Broadly, the kind of roulette bets can be classified as being either inside bets or outside bets. An inside bet has lower odds than the outside bets, but the payoff is also considerably higher.
There are six different kinds of inside bets: Straight Up or Single, Street, Six Line, Split, Corner and Trio. The Straight Up bet is a bet that is placed on a single number on the paytable, and if the player wins he/she gets a 35:1 payout. The Street and the Trio are both bets on three different numbers, the difference being that the Street is a bet on a row of three numbers while the Trio is a bet on one of two combinations: 0-1-2 and 0-2-3. The payoff on these bets is 11:1. A Split is when the player wagers on two numbers that are adjacent to each other on the board, and is worth a 10:1 payout. The Six Line bet is a wager placed on two adjacent streets and the corner is a bet placed on four numbers with a common intersection point.
The outside bets can be divided into 6 different types as well. Players can bet on the first 18 or the second 18 numbers, these do not include either the 0 or the 00. The next kind of outside bet is the Red or Black, where the player places a bet on which color the winning number will be. Even or Odd bets are wagers on whether the winning number will be even or odd. There are two other kinds of outside bets, the column bet and the Dozens bet. The column bet is a wager placed on one column of 12 and the dozens bet is a wager on the winning number being between 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36.
